If you were to ask anyone in Dubai, ‘Who is DJ Bliss?’ you will get get a number of responses. Some will tell you they’ve heard him on the radio, whether recently or a few years ago. Some will say they’ve seen him play at a club once when they were out with their friends on a Friday night. And some will recall his face on a TV show they used to watch. All of these are correct and it’s a known fact DJ Bliss is a household name.

 

But who is DJ Bliss?

 

Born on June 6, 1981 in the city of Dubai, UAE, Marwan Parham Al Awadhi aka DJ Bliss is one of the pioneers of the music and nightlife scene in the Middle East. Growing up and being the middle child of five, Bliss has always tried to pave his own path and create a unique voice for himself that others could relate to. In high school, he started his own band with a sound so rare, it was classified as a cross genre between folk, rock and alternative – something unheard of in the United Arab Emirates. Determined to make a name for himself and his band, they went on to compete in their school competitions, local competitions and ultimately nationally until they won the ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition in his early school days.

 

After having realized his musical potential in the late 90s, Bliss started experimenting with DJing. Although he had no experience, he was drawn to the artistry of mixing and knew it was something he wanted to do. He applied for his first DJ gig at a theme park and had to teach himself how to use all the equipment

 

Ultimately, Bliss was spending too much time learning how to DJ on the job then actually DJing and was fired from his first gig. Over time, he began practicing, got on the radio and established himself as a familiar voice on the airwaves. His skill and popularity grew so fast that after a couple of years, he received the ‘Palm DJ of the Year’ award and was invited to play at the Ministry of Sound in London.

 

In the early 2000s, Bliss would receive his first big TV break as he became the host for a show called ‘That’s Entertainment’ on the Dubai One channel. The show was so successful that he quickly became the most in demand DJ and host in the nation. He then began focusing deeply on his passion for music and started producing tracks and expanding his music forte. He opened up ‘Bliss Inc Entertainment’ which became the corner stone for the music entertainment industry of the UAE.

 

By the late 2000s, DJ Bliss had begun throwing and hosting parties and creating a new musical wave for the youth of Dubai. His events were so monumental that he was able to book the hottest international DJs and artists of the time such as Mos Def, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Drama, DJ Whookid and many more. From then, it was a ripple effect of musical domination in Dubai with a recurring weekly radio show, the only urban parties in the city and ultimately global recognition.

 

 

Under his company ‘Bliss Inc’ he began officially hosting urban events at venues under the brand name ‘The Real Flava’ which including a radio show, a comedy club tour, a talent booking agency and hip-hop parties. Today, the ‘The Real Flava’ has been rebranded and split into a talent bookinga agency, under the name ‘Selekt,’ and an urban parties platform, now known as ‘411 Nights.’

 

The DJ Bliss brand had grown and expanded expeditiously that he began touring internationally and making a name for himself outside of his hometown of Dubai. He became a known name so much so that he continuously shared the stage at events like the Formula 1 Grand Prix with artists like Prince, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, and many more. This grew into collaborations with international artists such as Grammy Award winning artist Wyclef Jean and Shaggy. So much so that he and Wyclef Jean co-produced Wyclef’s 2013 album titled, ‘April Showers.’ He then released his very first single titled ‘Let It Go’ featuring Kardinall Officiall which reached the top 10 in the Middle East charts.

 

At this point, DJ Bliss had been approached to sign multiple deals, notably his 2014 ‘Universal MENA’ record deal and his signing with Los Angeles based talent agency ‘SKAM Artist’. He then started to focus on his own music production and released a compilation album titled ‘Made in Dubai’ which skyrocketed to the top of the charts and sat at #1 for weeks.

 

DJ Bliss then released another single titled ‘Crazy’ in 2017 with Dominican artist and actress, Melymel which peaked at #3 on the top charts in the Middle East.

 

Going back to his roots, in 2018 DJ Bliss released ‘I Need A Karak,’ a song about a popular local tea drink in the UAE and received instant virality after reaching over a million views. His popularity amongst the locals was flourishing and he had established himself as the pinnacle figure for music in the UAE.

 

In late 2018, DJ Bliss collaborated with UK producer and artist, Ayo Beatz to release their hit song, ‘It’s Your Birthday’ which made noise across the region.

 

His most recent achievement was his 2019 Special Olympics performance in Abu Dhabi. He opened and closed the ceremony with over 50,000 in the crowd and over half a million viewers watching and streaming his performance live.

 

DJ Bliss’ love for music and entertainment has allowed his brand to expand into opportunities that go beyond just mixing behind the DJ booth. Over the years, Bliss has constantly MC’ed events, traveled the world and created his own platforms for entertainment purposes on social media. He has ventured into vlogging on YouTube and has established himself as a content curator and social media influencer.

 

Nonetheless, his love for entertaining the crowd hasn’t stop him from staying family-oriented and started his own family. Back in 2016, he married his wife Danya and in 2018 they welcomed their first baby boy, Zayed. He has been able to seamlessly incorporate being a father into who he is and his brand and taken DJ Bliss to the next level.

 

When he’s not traveling the world, producing or creating entertaining content for all viewing pleasure, you will find DJ Bliss at his weekend residencies in Dubai at club BOA and Toy Room.

 

So, who is DJ Bliss you ask? He’s an artist, an entertainer, a performer and a musical pioneer. He’s a household name for the city of Dubai. He is all of the above and more – and he’s just getting started.
